Challenges and actions
Afyonkarahisar's agricultural production and local food systems are particularly relevant in the context of water efficiency, drought resilience and climate change adaptation. This is particularly relevant to the city's gastronomy, which is closely connected to local agriculture, livestock production and rural communities.
The city has implemented concrete measures to promote more sustainable food systems and reduce food waste. Under the "Supporting the National Zero Waste Project and Improving Food Waste Management in Afyonkarahisar" initiative, a Food Waste Road Map was developed and awareness seminars were organized for students, farmers, local producers, restaurants and public institutions, reaching approximately 300 participants.
These efforts are aligned with Afyonkarahisar's UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy framework, which includes developing policies and measures for green solutions related to energy and food waste reduction.
